I've started upgrading the 9" drums on my '65 Barracuda to the disc/drum setup from a '74 Duster. Now that I'm ready to start putting everything back together, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to which brands are better than others. I'll be needing new wheel cylinders, hoses, rotors, calipers, etc.

Any advice as to your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Raybestos is still a good brand, although if you opt for the cheap and midgrade parts they can be chinese/south american... Wagner is OK with the same thought in mind...

Wagner = Federal Mogul, and given the way the MBAs have been taking money and quality out of FM's entire auto parts line, I will not accept Wagner brake components any longer unless there is absolutely no choice. Raybestos or Bendix, yes.

When I was getting my Impala safetied last May, the mechanic told me that he prefers Delco rotors. Now that I need rear rotors, these seem to be special order items and the local parts store is recommending some off-shore brand (Yin?) because it's a lot cheaper (~$26 vs $90). He says they're identical to name-brand rotors and probably made even better in some ways. I have my doubts.

Yeah, the counterman's full of it. Despite the magic (not) of cheap Chinese manufacture, there's still no such thing as something for nothing. Try for Raybestos or Bendix. Delco's fine, too. Centric seem to make good stuff. Whichever brand you settle on, buy the best grade they offer, even if it's a special-order necessity.

Sadly for a front end job on a '76 disc brake setup with Raybestos's 'premium' parts that's now bordering on a $500 brake job... (at $120 per each rotor/premium... and all the other 'stuff')

Don't know if they make it for your app, but I've had good luck with Brembo rotors (plain old rotor, not the fancy ones)
