Do mid-70s era chrysler 3 speeds have a mounting boss for a floor shifter? I know floor shifters were optional in these cars, but that most had column shifted 3 speeds, like my dad's 77 Volare SW. Just curious, because a 3 speed swap might happen to my Bcuda.

The Volare wagon had a 3-speed manual and was column shifted? My '76 Aspen coupe was 4-speed OD and was floor shifted. My '74 Duster was A230 3-speed and was floor shifted. That Duster was super easy to convert to 4-speed so it got an A833.

Post subject:  yeah..

my old man's volare wagon was my intro to /6s. It was a super six/3 on the tree/no power anything with 3.23 gears. it would boil the hide off the right rear tire with just a little clutch pop!

We hauled motorcycles, towed boats (even a 19ft wooden cabin cruiser), hauled sprikler pipe, outboard motors and appliances with that thing! It was my dad's pick up truck once it was retired form being the only family vehicle. Which meant he used it daily in his odd-job business. Shoot, we even used to go off roading behind my uncle's scout!

He sold it for $200 back in 1990. Never seen another like it. I'd like to have one like it, now.

Anyway, enough nostalgia, I guess if I find a floor shift car then I'd have no issues. I'd rather go 833OD, but they seem to be scarce round here. That's why I got so excited in the other post about the GM 833.

Post subject:  73 duster 3 spd

Hello everybody !!!!
Just joined the site today and I am very happy to see others with Mopar 225 slant six's !!!! I am a Mopar nut and have 3 of them. 71 swinger 340,73 swinger 340 and now a 73 duster 225, 3spd on the floor. I plan on keeping this on basically stock with a little upgrade for gas mileage and enough power to shake up the new cars. First I would like to know what I need to do to change the 3spd to a 4spd?

Thanks to the owners of this site.

Step #1: Check to see if you current bellhousing has the "dual bolt pattern", if it has the dual pattern, the 4-speed bolts-on.

Step #2: Find the correct A-body 4-speed and shift linkage.

Step #3: Bolt it all in and test drive, Done!

There are many photos and useful tips in the article section, look at the 4-Speed article.

This is correct although the 1973-1974 A-230 floor shift cars came with the 3spd only pattern bellhousings (I got one of each year!)... Getting a standard A-833 bellhousing would be necessary for the standard A-833, and any 1975-1980 A or F body can be a donor for the A-833 OD and bellhousing if looking for a street/economy only tranny...

I'm a little brain dead today. Working too hard. Basically find an a833 from an aor f body car 1975 to 1980. Switch the bell housing, bolt up the 4 spd linkages and go?

The 3 speed I just pulled has no provision for a floor shift. No mounting boss.

Non synchro 1st gear model, whichever that is.

Interesting note: It's the same length as my 833OD
