HELLO, you have all been very helpful, so here goes: Ive been driving the valiant for about four years now with a broken stud on the exhaust manifold. Top forward most bolt near the radiator. Its been one of those things where i always said i would get to it, but of course there was always the thought of " well its broken but its not causing a problem", kind of thing. Anyway, i guess it blew out the gasket because all of a sudden its gotten loud. QUESTION; what will i need to properly tackle this repair? and should i remove the intake/exhaust to replace all the gaskets? Thanks for any comments. RUSS |

I just did mine last week. I replaced all the gaskets. Its not that hard. Probably the hardest part was trying to connect it back up to the exhaust pipe. One thing you need is a torque wrench. Do a search on remflex gaskets. I have heard very good things. |

Kinda' depends. Is the stud broken off flush? Here is what I would do take it FWIW: Soak all the bolts in PB blaster or Kroil tonight. Do it again tomorrow morning. Do it once more tomorrow night, remove the intake/exhaust manifolds. Use a center punch in the middle of the stud. Use a 1/2" drill and a 1/4" bit and drill it out. Then take a 21/32 drill bit and drill it out. Use one of these: http://www.ezlok.com/ availiable @ www.mcmaster.com part # 90259A139 and finish the repair. You would need a 7/16-14 tap also. To tap the hole and install the insert. I've used these inserts on lots of things and they are GREAT. sb |

hello, and ..... the two end studs on the slant heads (and sometimes some or all of the others) go through to the water. so drain enough coolant from the system to make sure the head is dry before you start,and on re-assembly,use sealant on the stud threads. regards,Rod
