| Post subject: | More power and torque combo? |
Hi guys. We get our team bus running quite well now but we are makeing plans for winter. Fact is that we take motor out and inspect it. If motor is on stand anyway then why not to get more power from that. One plan is to put V8 360cid. I have freshly bored/honed/painted block sitting on garage but I just do little bacround search that what would cost build stronger and fresh slant six? I know its hard to get performance parts for this motor, at least harder than for V8 motor. - I though myself to raise CR up to somewhere 9.0 or 9.5 - Camshaft - CL64-241-4 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku What intake and exhaust you suggest? Also what carb? - FBO ignition Also what horsepower numbers you expect ? Best regards Georg |

Haven't hopped up the /6 myself but from what I've read here: Shave the head up to .100 Install the cam you mentioned Use the Dutra Dual headers At least a 2" dual exhaust with low restriction mufflers Offy or Clifford 4 bbl. intake Holley 390cfm 4160 vacuum secondary 4 bbl. carb Pertronix electronic ignition conversion or HEI system I would expect a 25% - 35% increase in horsepower over stock. I would expect this mild combo to work with the stock stall converter and rear. |

Olds, Just sent you a PM for my engine build and tuning instructions. It is also listed under "Engine Builds". If this is going in a van, bus or truck, you may want to add a dual roller timing chain. Doc has built my torque/mileage engine combo and says I should be at 160 HP. |

A. Ted's engine HP is limited by the 1920 1 barrel carburetor. Adding a Super Six 2 bbl system would likely add another 20 HP. DD |

Need more info on what your goal/plan/rebuild consist of, but a healthy slant six is relatively cheaper to build, and easy on the gas pump. However, if this van needs to meet a specific goal of xxx than a 360 would be the way to do (I'm always nervous saying that hear, but sometimes it's the truth). However, don't get completely discouraged by the horsepower numbers, because your torque will be that of a 318 or some years better and lets not forget that is what will push the van around. |
