Hey guys, I finally got the car together and took her out to the track! I think it has been about 4 years since I found this site and started a build plan. Not much has changed from the original goal. 14.00 and 100 mph. I work at a shop and started collecting 5$ bets on the fastest run of the first night out. There was about 65$ worth of bets most in the 15s and mine at 14.33 no one would bet lower until I fired it up, and my buddy put five on 14.25. We drove out to the track with a pair of borrowed 26x10.5 ET Streets. I went to pay and they almost wouldn't let me race due to the lights down on one lane at Pacific. Anyways my first pass netted a 14.88 due to not getting up on the converter fast enough. the second pass netted a 14.59 with a stumble off the line. I quickly changed the pump squirter from a 28 to a 31 and pulled a 14.07 at 97 mph! fourth and final run it got squirly on me all the way down the track but I didn't back out and still ran a 14.22. I beat my own expectations on the first night! Too bad I had to give that money up. Anyways I still have a little lag out of the hole so I have some more I can get out of her. Next goal 13.80 on my daily driven 66 Valiant. |

Great work... you still have 3 weeks to get everything dialed-in for the Medford, OR SL6 race! It sure sounds like 13.XX ETs are not far off. DD |

Thanks alot guys, I would love to get some pictures but I have to find some one smarter than me to bring it all together. I have film and video to gather up. Anyways this bog I have is weird, it is on the primary side and affects under 3000 rpm. light tip in seams to be the worst. some times it just goes blaaaaaaaaaa, then waaaaaaaaa full throttle feel. it feels like the accelerator pump misses a shot. Also at cruise or stalled up on the converter at 2500 if I punch it I have a hesitation before full pickup. I am running a 600 dp I have bumped the jets four sizes to 70 primary, it helped a little. I also bumped the pump shooter twice from 28 to 31 now to a 35 and a 35 in the rear. I also tried pump cams alittle more aggressive. It still feels like I am opening a black hole and not getting enough initial fuel to melt the ice caps. |

Power Valve could be coming-in late. What is the current PV's rating? How much manifold vacuum are you seeing at idle, more then 11 inches? If so, try putting a 10.5 PV into it to see if that helps. DD |

Doc, In the beginning I tried power valves. vacume at idle is pretty low, something like 8 to 11 inches at idle. I have power valves from 6.5 the standard, down to 3.5, I tried all of them 3.5 seemed to be to much. At the time I was fighting a lean primary. Fixed. I think I have a 5.0 power valve in it now. I cant remember the formula for power valves now but I remember I was close with the 5.0. what do think? |

Hey anybody headed toward Medford from the Enumclaw WA area with a trailer long enough to haul two cars?! I pay half gas and am single and willing to camp where ever I fall. |

The PV rating should be 2 inches lower then the idle vacuum you see so it sounds like you have that covered. The PV restrictors could be small but you really need to see an O2 reading before drilling those out. How is the distributor's advance curve? How fast does mechanical advance come-in & what's the total? Are you running the Vacuum Advance at the track? Is it pulling-in any VA at idle? DD |

the timing advance is not to bad. Just a parts store rebuilt electronic. 10 inintal 30 total without VA. all in by 2400. I thought about more initial like 15 because it had a better vacume pulse like about 13-14'' but then it pinged at the track. |

From your discription, the engine seems to like more initial timing... Shorten-up the govenor slots (braze) so you can run more initial and still stay with-in 30-32 total. This is all "routeen adjustments" stuff you need to do when dialing-in a new engine combo., for max HP. DD |

That is one thing i havent done, but been thinking about doing. Ithink I will buy another dist. so i dont have to have the car down. I have access to an old SUN dist. machine, I just have not gotten to it yet. I am headded out to Pacific to night for a little test and tune. I should have a 13.8* time slip tonight! |
