I already installed the pertronix kit on my 61 lancer and now i'm doing the wiring but the instuctions are a bit vague and this is my first one. First of all, there is a ballast resistor in it with what looks like the wire going to the negative of the coil from the ballast resistor. My question is Do I need to put a ballast resistor inline from the coil to the ignition module or can i just hook the red pertronix wire straight to the coil. The coil is a new MSD Blaster coil and I don't really feel like burning up a brand new kit or coil.

The coil needs the ballast on the positive (unless it's a 3 ohm coil), and the red should goto a 12v (no ballast) ignition power source.

The black wire on the pertronix goes to the negative coil terminal.

does anybody know what ohm the msd coils are? I'm guessing the one wire coming from the harness to the coil needs to go to the positive, and I need to put a resistor inline from the pertronix red wire and the coil?

I thought the MSD coils were 0.7 ohms which is too low even with ballast resister. Need a 1.5 ohm coil with ballast.

But, I've been assuming you're running the Pertronix I..... If you're running the Pertronix II, I think you don't need the ballast and any coil will do...............

So what pertronix and what's the MSD part number?

I just hooked the two Pertronix wires across the coil on 2 slants and a 273. Works great.
