Post subject:  Valve Question Please

It looks like 2 of my exhaust valves have receded.

Can anyone suggest a good source for valves and seats, or do you normally let your machine shop purchase the seats to install?

Thanks!

Thank you Fopar.

What difference is there in installing oversize valve seats... do they have to do quite a bit more work to make that happen?

The customary procedure is to let the machine shop source the parts, according to your specifications (which may be as general as "Replace the valves and install hard seats").

Excellent (in the words of Montgomery Burns).

Another question... Is it standard to replace the valve guides as well on a high mileage engine (165,000)?

and ask for bronze guides, some places still 'cheap out' on guide work so watch it.

"No I said new bronze guides, hardened seats, and new valves and springs... not 'knurl' the old guides, put the old valves in, and re grind the old seats...."

Thanks to all.

Finally, what $$ figure should I be looking at for this kind of work?
