Post subject:  Help for the correct brake choice.

I'm looking for Wilwood disc brake kits for both axles in my DODGE 3700 GT.

I've been talking with a Wilwood tech consultant for it and he asked me about the front spindles (year and model) for finding an equivalent brake kit.
Anybody has front spindles as my car's?

Please tell me the model and year, My Dodge has 5 x 4 bolt pattern and disc brakes in front axle. (mopar 225 engine)

My rear axle is a mopar 7 1/4 with drum brakes. Is there any option for disc brakes in rear? or should I have to adapt any kit?. Any brand recomendation? Is it possible to adapt a Mopar 8 3/4 rear axle brake kit to the 7 1/4 axle? ( I suppose I'll have to made some parts but not problem with it).

We are improving this "Spanish Mopar". When it will be finished I'll try to post it here. By the moment we have just adapted 18" Porsche wheels.

Hope you'll like it. Sorry for my english.
And thanks for your recomendations.

Nice car! Why adding Wilwood brakes...? What are you hoping to improve about the stock front disc brakes?

If you're determined to do this, then it looks like an appropriate reference would be "1972 Dodge Dart with factory Kelsey-Hayes 4-piston disc brakes".

Thanks Dan, I know probably I'm not going to improve the front axle braking from the original brakes , but here in Spain I have not problems for finding wilwood parts and pads. For the original kit I need a couple of weeks for getting parts at home from USA.

Any idea for disc kit for the rear 7 1/4 axle?

Bad news from Wilwood, they have told me there isn't front disc brake kit for my car. And in the rear axle they haven't kits for 5 x 4" bolt pattern.

I Think We are going to have to invent something for having disc brakes in four wheels.

If there is anybody who has set a disc brake kit in a Mopar 7 1/4 axle and wants to help me I'll be very thankful. Suggestions for improving front axle brakes will also be well recieved.

Thanks to all.

Sadly here in the US the 7 1/4" is usually blown up and junked in favor of one of the bigger/more stout rear ends (8.25" and 8.75")... so rear disc brake kits for these rears are a 'do it yourself' type deal... or 'swap out rear end for one with disc brakes from another car and make it fit' type deal....

Good Luck,

Thanks to all for your help.

Here in Spain there are lots of car with 5 x 4 bolt pattern so we are going to search for a good high performance 4 disc brake kit and we will try to fit it into my car.

One thing to keep in mind about Wilwood calipers, at least the ones I have seen, is that they do not have external seals or boots. Water and dirt can get right in to the main seal. This is why they are not normally considered a street part. It is not that they are not safer otherwise if properly set up, including the plumbing.

If they have them with the seals, great, I would just make sure before money is put down.
