Been talking with Slant Cecil and reading the posts on here about the Super Six conversion and the issue of a different arm on the transmission.

Slant Cecil brought up an interesting question (well, at least to me). What is the actual measured difference between an actual Super Six arm and the one of a 1bl car?

Thought is that if the measurement was known then for those that need perhaps some others could be looked at to see if they work. As Slant Cecil says, perhaps a 318 2bl arm is the same. Who knows?

On my proposed conversion to Super Six on the '71 if I read Doc's post correctly I might not need to have the trans arm to swap because the linkage that connects it has a slotted arm. Do I have that right?

On another thought. I don't have the pivot block or spring for the other end. Can I just reuse the 1 barrel stuff?

Hope this isn't a wasteful post, but enquiring minds want to know. Well at least this one does.

First the easy answers: Yes, the pivot block and spring are the same, so you can go ahead and use them.

Out of all the times I was messing with this very issue — trans kickdown lever length — I wish I had bothered to measure the centre-to-centre and write it down somewhere, but unfortunately I never did either, just noticed "H'mm...shorter" and "H'mm...longer". And what's worse, there's some legitimate headscratching and debate over the difference, as summarised in this post. Don't know if you saw it, but here's a less-costly way of working around the kickdown link issue.

Yes, saw the posts you linked to, but thanks for linking them as will be useful either way. In my situation I've got the Super Six linkage, rod etc. Just not the pivot block and spring off the original car, but glad to know they swap. Thanks for that tip. :D Only issue might be the arm, but then Doc, on the same post I believe, alluded to the standard 1 barrel arm being useable if the Super Six had the slotted linkage arm up top. Thankfully mine does so I may be okay. Not got into the swap yet as need to get gaskets etc. and also finish some other little bits. Choosing between the OZ gaskets and the Remflex. Wish the Remflex was available local, but looks like they are only branching out to their local area. NAPA and CarQuest hadn't a clue here.

Quite funny your saying "hmm longer, hmm shorter" on the rods. :D Think it would be interesting to get those measurements. Who knows. Someone out there with a complete set up that is pulling their hair out because of the trans arm might be able to just go get a readily available one like off the 318 or something. Would be really interesting to find out actual measurements.

I thought of going by part numbers, but then the thought came to me that numbers might dead end or, more then likely, the same number would be used, but the arm might still be different between cars.

I'll be working on the Dart tomorrow so will see if I can climb under and get a measurement for the 1 barrel on a '71 Dart 225, 904 arm.

Just needs someone out there to measure their proper one for the Super Six and if someone has a V8 car then they can measure theirs.

Only issue would be accurate measurements taken at the same places etc. Ideal would be someone who has access to all of them and can measure all the same.

Anyway, still interesting and perhaps useful.

I need to contact Doc and confirm the slotted linkage question and hopefully I'm fixed then.

Thanks for your post Dan. Maybe in your dealings you might come across the levers again as well and get the measurements. That is if you don't do the HMMM short again! :lol:

Other way round is more likely: Multiple different P/Ns for the same lever, making it impossible to judge by part number whether there are in fact levers of different length. P/Ns are discussed ("infuriatingly vague") in one of the linked posts.
