Well now I'm the proud owner of a sun distributor machine, it all works good (better get the number for the strobe bulb in case it ever burns out!)

It has a nice selection of 'specs' for all sorts of 50/60's cars on the rolodex...

So far:

Dwell:36-42 degrees 'each' gap .017" or 48-54 degrees 'both' gap .023" gap
Spring Tension 17-21.5

Automatic Advance:
Vacc. None
425-575 rpm 0 deg. 575 0-6.5 deg. 800 5-7 deg. 3400 11.5-13.5 deg.


I'll have to get the specs for the 60-61 170 and the 225 to compare...

The next time I'm in Denver, I'll dig up my big file of '60s-'70s Chrysler distributor spec charts and send them to you.
"Each" and "Both", eh? Interesting — a dual-points distributor with no vacuum advance. That's neither in the '60-'61 FPC nor in the BOM for the Hyper-Pak, not by description, reference, or part number. The standard-equipment '60-'61 170 distributor was 1889 750, and the 225 unit was 2095 270. There was an aftermarket dual-points conversion breaker plate for the slant-6 distributor, which also featured coaxial ball bearing construction rather than the offset-hinged pivot-type construction of the O.E. breaker plate; the advantage was that the point cam's angle of approach to the rubbing block remained constant across the whole range of vacuum advance. These were sold under the name Dyna-Flyte (model 503-D) and possibly others. Vacuum advance function was retained with this conversion. They go by on eBay every now and again, and one of the big NOS dealers has some and thinks these things are made out of gold-pressed latinum. He has them priced accordingly (about double the price listed here ) ; bet they're real fast movers for him . I had one in my '65 for awhile (running only a single set of points). What can I say, the car started and ran...!

I am guessing that 2095 550 was probably a Prestolite-built ("Auto-Lite", at the time) distributor, since that's who supplied the dual-point distributors for Chrysler's big high-perf V8s.

I finally looked in the cabinet and it has some 'tools' for the machine, but no manual...

I did find a manual for a late model version here.
But you will need a good internet connection as the 21 page manual is in a 3.3 meg PDF... most of the information to 'using' the machine pertains to all models, but there are some 'feature' upgrades from version to version....
