Being a Volunteer Fire Fighter has it's perks. I have a grand total of one very dirty rolling donut in my 8" Ford rear. The department had a donated 72ish Ford Maverick that the guys practiced extrication techniques on. It was sitting in the Training Center across from my house, all hacked to pieces. I called the Training Officer, and asked if I could have the rear axle from it. "Sure, take whatever you want." So I did. I even used the Fire District's fork lift to haul it over to my shop, took my choice of bits and pieces, then hauled it back. The mess was in front of my house for about an hour. The rear dropped right in my 74 Valiant. Bolt up, as it were. Of course there were those pesky items that one replaces whenever an evolution of this sort occurs. The big one was the center chunk. The rear came with 2.79:1 gears. Great for getting to the track, but lousy for ET. Fopar just happened to have a 3.50 set, and some Speedo drive gears. He provide them to the project, and helped me get them installed! Then there were U-bolts, brakes, brake lines, a spring kit, a NAPA 319 conversion U-joint, some hypoid, and we're in business. The consumables cost me a bit of coin. So maybe a couple Tarnished coins to go with an Oily, filthy, somewhat stinky, rolling donut. The Valiant howls the tires on launch now! It looks like I put a little under 100#'s of weight on the car. Thanks Fopar for all the goodies and the help! Now all we need is some track time to see what happens to my ET. CJ |

So "what does it look like?" you ask. Well, it looks like this. http://s62.photobucket.com/albums/h93/H ... uff015.jpg Nifty. I added some center caps MiDi gave me, and a trim ring that's been sitting in my shop so long I don't remember where it came from! http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h93/H ... uff012.jpg And another! http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h93/H ... uff013.jpg I feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy about how that looks! Gotta remember what it looked like before! CJ |

Yep, MiDi's old Dart dishes. Doc is going to remember a set of Plymouth ones! I also need two 14" trim rings to complete the new look. And maybe a paint job. Yeah... Heading back out to the shop. I'm going to experiment with the L/R band. It's going to run a bit tighter than spec..... CJ |
