Post subject:  Super Six Electric Choke Conversion
Since the stock choke thermostat is no longer available, I put on an electric choke conversion today, the model 1232 from Randy Rymal. His website is http://www.rymalsrestorations.com/. I ordered it through his paypal account, classic301@aol.com for $55 shipped and got it in a few days.

It's a nice looking piece (see website) and it took all of about 10 minutes to hook it up and adjust it. The engine fired the first time and the choke released perfectly in a couple minutes. I'm impressed and very happy that I don't have to sit there pumping the pedal to get the car warmed up.

Not weird at all...he doesn't want to step on the toes of a distributor who buys more choke kits than he'll ever sell onesie-twosie to the likes of us! :shock:

I found this thread in the search for the solution to my electric choke problem. However I am wondering if there is a mechanical choke for the super six with a carter BBD that can be found in the boneyard. Is electric the only way they did it back then? If so is there an easy way to hook up the factory electric choke I currently have?

The '73+ "electric assist" factory chokes, I really don't like. They're not adjustable, they didn't work incredibly well when new, they work poorly when old, and they use parts (choke thermostat, choke heater modulator) no longer readily available. The electric choke kit is the easiest and cleanest setup to install, and it works well. You can cobble up a hand choke, but they don't work too well on carbs originally intended for use with automatic chokes.

(in context of this thread, and the linked one, this almost sounds a little like a trick question! :lol: ) You may have to disassemble it and flip the thermostatic coil over when you receive it; for some strange reason they sometimes come backwards. But that's the only real gotchya I've found. I've installed probably a dozen of these now, on different cars, and have found them easy and quick to install and adjust, and reliable in the long term.

New Old Stock original-type choke thermostat and modulator from Old Car Parts Northwest or elsewhere. Not as good of a result.
