"A" Body department:

I removed the Dart's UCA today to replace the bushings. Using a home made press consisting of a 2" pipe coupling, a 2x3/4" pipe bushing, a length of 3/8" threaded rod and a few nuts & washers, it quickly popped the bushings out & installed the new ones with no effort. All for under ten bucks. It is large enough to press out the lower control arm bushing also.

Something that can help when doing this is to put all the bushings in the freezer for a few hours befour installing. It makes them smaller and harder which helps when pressing them in.

It helps to warm the arms also but just dont go to far with that. Lay them out on hot pavement for a hour works good.

Back in the old days we use to do it this way because we had no presses and such. It makes installing them with a rig like is pictured much easier and a I have even see it work so good that the home made bolt press didnt even have to be used, supported them on a vice and and a socket over the bushing to help protect it then one lick with a hammer and they where in.

Gotta hand it to you for the craftyness

I used the vice itself. As long as you have one that will open wide enough and is sturdy. To get old one out, put a big socket on the outside of the arm, put the mess in a vice, and tighten. To get it back in, put the new bushing on the outside, socket on the inside.
