1971 dart 4 door. 225 SL6. Unsure about transmission type and rear end gears. Automatic Trans. Any advice about my drivetrain behind engine would be nice. Specs and all. Better 4 door (easy driver) upgrades from stock? what? thanks! drew |

Your rear axle ratio is almost certainly 2.76; this was the standard ratio with automatic transmission. You can check by lifting up one rear wheel and marking it, then turning it through two full revolutions (paying attention to the mark) while you count quarter-turns of the driveshaft -- you can easily do this by counting each U-joint cap as it faces the ground. THen divide your quarter-turn count by four to get your rear axle ratio. There are lots of upgrades that can be made to your car, many of which can be considered "easy" (this depends on your own capabilities and equipment). You can upgrade the engine, the brakes, the headlamps and brake lights, the seatbelts, you can make it steer better, idle better, accelerate faster, you can improve its mileage, make it safer...what do you want the car to do that it doesn't currently do (or what do you want it not to do that it currently does)? If you will find the fender tag (under the hood on the driver's side inner fender; a 2" x 3" metal tag stamped with a bunch of letters and numbers) and either post a clear, sharp, close-up photo of it or just post an accurate transcription of its contents, we can tell you a great deal about the equipment and specs your car was built with. The "Other" section of this board is the best place for that. |
