I've got two electrical issues and need someone to point me in the right direction to diagnose the problem.

The first, all of my turn signals work except for my Rt. front, Rt. front side, and the fender indicator. I am assuming it is a broken or fried wire. Where under the dash does this circuit start so I can trace it?

The second, my dash lights are out. I ignored this for the last couple years because I planned on having Sick6 build me a new cluster but I need some lights until that time comes. I assume that this circuit comes from the headlamp switch because it is dimmable. Which terminal or wire do I check?

It's a '68 Dart 270 if they aren't all the same.

When you say the "right front side" signal doesn't work, which exact light are you talking about? There wouldn't have been any side turn signals on a '68 Dart; if you mean the little round lamp with the chrome bezel, that's a sidemarker light. On a '68, it doesn't flash with the turn signals. It lights up steadily when the parking lamps or headlamps are on.

Could be that, but could also be two dead bulbs. The front park/turn lamp uses a bulb that contains two filaments. The dim one does the parking lamp duty, and the bright one does the turn signal. If the bright filament burns out (it has the shorter life of the two), the parking lamp will keep working but the turn signal won't.

Could also be a faulty turn signal switch.

The orange wire feeds all the dashboard lights. Often the cause of no dash lights is a dirty or faulty headlamp switch dash light rheostat. SOmetimes these can be cleaned up and made to work, sorta. A new headlamp switch often solves the problem.

Thanks Wjajr for the link. It's saved.

Dan, I checked the bulb and put a testlight on the socket, nothing. Thanks for the tip that the side marker shouldn't blink :oops: . If I was smarter, I would have checked the Lft side to confirm that :roll: .

Thanks for the tips, I'll crawl under the dash this weekend and see what I can find.

Now that I think about it, I replaced the turn signal switch when I first got the car. The wires didn't really lay in the column like I would have liked. I should pull the wheel and see if something rubbed through. But then, why would the rear signal still work.... (ok, i'm done talking outloud.)

I would check the light sockets also. These old cars (especially up north) can really get some crosion in the lamp sockets.

Well, I got most of my electrical problems figured out.

I pulled the steering wheel and discovered one of the issues. When I replaced the turn signal cam, I didn't like the way the wires where laying in the column, and sure enough, one of them wiggled it's way back up and the wheel rubbed through the insulation. Took it all back apart and really tried to get the wires placed under the switch better. (I just taped up the worn insulation)
Hey, the front signal and indicator works!!!
But, in playing with all of this I discovered that from time to time, I don't have a brake light on the Rt. side. That is untill I wiggle the turn signal. So, I guess I need to replace the whole dang thing ($65.00 at my local NAPA). We'll see how long that takes me to get around to :lol:

The dash lights... wow, what a mess behind the dash! There is speaker wire being used as grounds, power feeds, etc, etc. The previous guy even rigged up a toggle switch to the AC compressor! I cut out everything that wasn't needed or right. Everything is still functional but the fuel gauge. I guess one of those extra ground wires must have served a purpose after all. So after work today, back under the dash to see what I removed.

Got to love electrical repairs! NOT!!!

I had the same rat's nest from remnants of no less than three after market sound systems and an alarm system under my dash making for one hacked up mess... Additionally none of my gages worked due to fried wires.

You may want to pull the gage cluster and clean the contacts that feed the dash lights, and gages.

Mine need some soldering, and a sub harness made up to feed the left side of the cluster:
