Any tips or guidance web site wise on choosing a new intercooler, and how to mount it. Am looking around on the internet, but would respect info more with an endorsement.

I used this intercooler from ebay. It seems to be pretty good quality. I'm happy with it.

I mounted it betweent he grill and rad. I had to remove the support that goes between the k frame and where the hood latches. I did have to cut a little of the core support to get the pipe through.

I've purchased three off of e-bay . One used and two new. The one on my Valiant couldn't go behind the grill, NO room. On top of the valve cover it is. Maybe not wise for a street car though. I also ran 3" tubing.

I had Bell Intercooler make one for use in my TDI Land Rover. I mocked up the shape with cardboard and PVC piping. I sent the whole thing to them to build. Was it cheap? Nope, not even close. Does it work great? Yep. Does it look professional and is it quality? No question about that.

Quality isn't cheap--and saving a few dollars on a second hand, forced to fit intercooler is just a waste of time.

Thanks for the replies so far. Shaker, I was looking at an intercooler similar to the one on your link. The plan was to mount it behind the bumper, where it would fit nicely, and open the license plate hole wider, and put the plate off to the side, if I used it at all. Police here are very spotty at enforcing the rule requiring a front plate in Maryland. I kind of think if I left it off, they would, at worst, give me a warning with a wink.

Anyway, the concern is enough ariflow,both through, and around the cooler, of course, but also the proper sizing to cool enough, and yet not have significant turbo lag. These new designs such as the link leads to claim that they have solved the lag problem with an inovative "plate and bar" design, or some such thing. I don't know what that is. Shaker, are you running the Devil's Own meth injection as well as the intercooler? The one you listed seems to be the perfect size physically, if I put it down low behind the bumper. Any tricks on adding dams or scoops to cool it better? I do not have room behind the grill. This car has AC, with it's condensor, and a massive aluminum radiator as well. The AC is for my wife, who has serious pollen related allergies.

I'm running a CX Racing intercooler on my Dart, too. Looks decent quality but rather heavy and the brackets on it were a bad joke. Their intercoolers and charge piping are decent quality at a good price, made in China as you might guess. I'm not sure I would trust their turbos.

I don't think it's physically possible to fit an intercooler in an A-body big enough to give significant lag issues.

Sorry Sam, no telephone number. I knew the size I was looking for and just started looking and that one appeared to work...and it did. I don't have AC so that does not help you with your space issue. I have not built any dams or tried to divert the air flow because it is right behind the grill and gets full air flow as it stands now.

I do have the Devil's Own meth injection plumbed in after the intercooler. I use 100% meth. I also have another washer bottle mounted in the passenger inner fender with some windshield squirters aimed at the intercooler as well. I have a manual button to use in the body compartment. I use windshield washer solvent there spiked with a little meth to speed up the evaporation and cool the intercooler if needed (like at the track).

If it helps, I purchased one from www.godspeedproject.com (but dealt thru e-bay). It was the spec-A intercooler. Very nice and reasonably priced. The one I'm using now was about $40, nice but not like godspeed.

I had looked at the Godspeed units as well, but ordered the CX based on price alone. I could see no real obvious difference in specs or construction.

Shaker, my local speed shop, which tunes for high profile racers around here says that running 100% meth can lead to an explosion that will blow your manifold off if there is a back fire under full throttle. Does this sound reasonable to anyone reading this? Is this what happened when Don Galits' dragster exploded and caught him on fire?
