What size turbocharger would anyone reccomend to make decent boost and good power on a 225??

Look at the T61, T60-1, and GT32/GT35. Those look about right to me, but I don't feel qualified yet to recommend specific specs.

Best to call Turbonetics, get their opinions, and buy from them, according to Tom Drake.

Otherwise, just get a stock Buick GN turbo and run that. That motor is the same size and you can make a quick car with even a stock GN turbo.

It's a T4 class. Not sure of other specs. Might try turbobuick.com for advice and used/good parts.

Say, don't know if this helps but, Just talked to a few turbo people about my spooling problems with the 170ci. I have a straight TO4S (T4) 60-1. I'm getting a T3 exhaust side to get it to spool quicker. They say a .82 A/R in a T3 will spool alot quicker than a .82 A/R in a T4 housing. Because of housing design and turbine weight size. A .58 A/R in the T4 housing would spool like a .82 in a T3. So just because it says .82 ( or whatever) doesn't mean it is the same for all turbos.
I believe the Buick turbo is a T3 (like the 2.2L) just bigger A/R. Don't know the A/R size though.

My 72 Rallye Charger runs 12.70's with a mild 440. It would surprise alot of people to run 12's with a Charger style car w/ a slant. I'm sure Shaker gets looks all the time. My Charger weighs only 600 pounds more than his A-body. Later

Look at the compressor maps on www.turbonetics.com (not related to turboneticsinc.com). Multiply pounds per minute by ten to get a rough estimate of horsepower. The 60-1 and T61 both can support over 550 hp. They would definately work, but you might get quicker spool out of a smaller turbo like the V1/V2 (~450hp) or even S3 (~380hp) Depending on what power you're looking for. You can also look at the compressor and turbine wheels they have for sale to find their diameters. This can be really helpful when bidding on "mystery turbos" on eBay. (just make sure their a name brand, the chinese ones are junk)

I'm getting ready to fire up a 225 with a Garrett GT40 turbo. I talked with the folks at Garrett and they said it's a bit on the large side but a good turbo for all out power with a slant six. A GT35 would be a bit more streetable. The GT40 is an 82 mm monster that Garrett recommends for the 400 to 600 hp range.

For used turbos, I'd look at a Holset HX35 diesel truck turbo or a Buick GN turbo.

I just gave a friend $20 for the Holset H1C off his '91 Cummins Ram 4x4. :D This turbo has the giant 21cm turbine housing so that will have to be changed unless I only want boost at very top of the engine speed range which I don't. If I can come up with a 14cm wastegated exhaust housing I'll give that a go.
