Would it be ok to run an electronic distributor on my slanter? I'm just gettin ready to pick up the truck tomorrow after about two years of being in the shop. So I have very little experience in the slanters but I know well enought they were the best engines ever built. But back to my question i've seen them for sale here and there and was thinking about converting it to electronic and try to get some better gas miles. If yall have any more tips to improve the mpg's I would appriciate the help because I would hate to sell this truck because of somthing that simple. |

If it's a 1980 it will either have EI already or have the old 'ESC'/Lean burn system... good luck on your quest, -D.Idiot |

Thanks for the replies i'll be getting the truck this evening and I will double check everything to refresh my memory... if it already has an EI distributor can I hook up an aftermarket control box to it? I honestly can't remember seeing any wires coming out from the distributor. It has the vaccuum advance on it. |

You can no matter wwhich distributor it is, but if it the old lean burn ESC setup the distributor is looked out and has no advance. Which now that I think about it you said it has a vacuum advance and unless I am remembering wrong the lean burn system had no advance on the dizzy. In that case yo just hook the pickup of the distributor ( two wire plug) up to the 6AL just like there instructions show. They even have that dizzy shown in there hookup instructions and it would go to the crank trigger wiring on the MSD ( purple and green if I am remembering right). That the exact way I am running mine and outsides of the cost of MSD its hard to beat it. Jess |

I also ran a MSD 6al box in my 225,with the M.P. distributor.Worked great ,I highly reccomend it,very easy to install with the enclosed instructions.Don't forget to open your spark plug gap to .045/.050 for better burn/more mileage(1-3 more m.p.g.) check out the "engine" threads a fewpages back for distributor advance curve "fine tuning" and get even better gas mileage out of your D-150.At $4.00+ per gallon,we need to use "every trick in the book! No need to buy an expensive MSD box with a spotty reliability record; much less costly and more cost-effective is the see HEI upgrade. |
