When changing over to some new Magnecore 8mm plug wires. Is there anything that the user will notice after the change. Assuming nothing was wrong with the existing set? Put another way.....what makes them better than your standard plug set? Dan? Anyone? bwhitejr |

I changed my stock plug wires over to a set from Jacobs Ignition years ago, which I beleive are 8mm. I didn't notice any "night and Day" type difference, but I felt better knowing that I had good plug wires on my slant. Anybody else? |

I wish I could agree with the notion that Jacobs' stuff is good. Expensive and well marketeered, yes. Good...? Not so much. Anybody else?

We run the definitely over-priced Jacob's wires on our race car because we were having problems with melting boots with our one-off headers. The porcelain boots helped in that respect but the wires were generic. We've since changed out the old wires and re-used the boots and they're still working good four years later. |

It's important to get a good spark, and if your plug wires deliver it to the plugs that's all you can ask of them. High voltage and heat can be hard on wires and they do not last forever. If your old wires were still doing their job OK, you won't see any change, but if they were bad or going bad, you'll see a nice improvement. I've been running 2 sets of Magnecor wires for a few years; they seem to be of very good quality and I've never had any problem with them, other than one lead of one set being about 1-2" short from what it should be. I will buy Mangnecor next time I need wires. I've been **very** disappointed in many other brands, especially a MSW set from PepBoys (the 1st set I bought was OK, the 2nd junk) - I wrote them to complain, but they never wrote back. My brother just bought a Bosch Premium set and one wire was flaky (open) right out of the box. Some years ago I had a Belden set develop many cracks in the insulation on my /6 after only a year. I bought some Motorcraft for my Ford and found the replacement's quality to be far inferior to the orginal's - they even lacked the proper connectors. For whatever reason, price does not indicate quality when it comes to spark plug wires. Also, there is sometimes no consistency from one box to another even within a brand. I suggest that if you buy ANY brand over the counter, you open the box carefully examine them before you buy it. Don't just believe what's on the outside of the box; measure their length, look to see if they've got the right connectors, conductors, etc. I might even take a MM along and measure the resistance. |

I am using Summit Racings Blue silicone 8mm wires with the gigantic molded blue spark plug boot. They have low resistance and are working well. I bought the 8 cylinder set and cut it to the shortest practical length. These wires are really well built and are heavy duty!  Part # SUM-G826 Price $34.95 |

I have the same wires as Ted on my '64. You end up with a few extra wires worth. Great minds... I would like to try these Magnecor wires sometime. Can't say I've EVER seen a difference in performance in new plug wires, only that really old sets start to misfire. Lou |

Pertonix wires gave me the shock of my life after Installed my msd6A. Was adjusting the timing - hand on the dizzy and these things were arcing allover the place Turfed them and bought a set off 8 (8.  accel wires and no more problems

I just installed my new Magnecor plug wires. Nice sturdy wire set. They seemed to clear up a low speed miss I was having with the engine under load. Also, replaced the cap and rotor using the Standard-Bluestreak model and the MO-300 rotor. I noticed the cap fit much better. The black one I had could be rotated back and forth about 1-2*, a second tan one I had could be rotated about 1/2* and the Bluestreak, NOT AT ALL!. So, now I have the full set. UR-5's, Bluestreak cap, Magnecor wires, MO-3000 rotor. Still have the Mopar orange box. Thanks SlantSix Dan for researching the proper equipment. bwhitejr |

bwhitejr, That is pretty close to what I am running, now take one more step. Get a MSD Blaster 2 coil and install it, chuck the MOPAR ballast resistor and replace it with the sturdy .85 ohm unit that comes with the coil. I used to see about 4 to 5 volts at the coil at idle with new stock MOPAR resistors. Idle was fair to good depending on how hot the resistor got. Now I am getting 10 volts at the coil. The idle is solid and take offs are awesome!

Rotor bought locally or via napaonline? Did you find it difficult or problematic in any way to get the MO-3000 rotor? Did they give you the correct tan one or a misboxed white MO-13 rotor? See this post and please let us know.

Dan, I just ordered a spare from our NAPA here in Black Diamond. The correct long nosed tan one came in the box. When I read your post about a year ago, I had problems getting the right one. They had put a white colored rotor with a short nose in the MO-3000 box. I had them reorder again to get the correct rotor. |
