I've talked to Sick6 about building a custom cluster to replace my hacked-up one. I have printed out pictures of various gauges and taped them onto my lens to see how it looks. I don't like the size gauges that fit the dash.
Was there ever a ralley dash or something else that will bolt in to my '68? Does anyone have pics of what they have done to their narrow, long dash opening?

I THINK that the 68 Barracuda dash may be somewhat compatible...

hey chris, have you got access to a PAW catalog? they have some gauges as small as 1.5". Many people I have worked with seem to like these when they "just can't get enough gauges".

I think your issue has to do more with asthetics though, right?

What you want is probably out there somewhere.

You can always Scour the a-body options for that year. SSdan is usally a good place to start!

there aren't many as the 'Dart' got the same long speedo whether it was a Hemi Dart or a 170... The plymouth 'base' speedo has the same 'hole' from 1967-1976... but the Rallye Dash Version up to 1972 might fit the Dart Dash (this would be similar to the 1967-1969 Barracuda Dash cluster)

Might be time to check some hulls at the junkyard to see what fits...

If you use the complete dash (metal frame and Rallye dash) from a 67 or 68 Barracuda, it will slip right in your 68 Dart. 68 would be better since it also uses the Dart thumbwheel radio; 67 uses a knob radio. You can probably cut up your dash to make the instrument cluster fit. When I did the same swap to a 70 Dart years ago, I had to used the actual metal part of the dash as well. Problem is the windshield has to come out to pull the dash.

Mark, that is what I did. I went on a bunch of web sites (VDO, Autometer, Dolphin, etc) and copy/paste/resize all of the gauges I thought looked good and taped them to my lens. I'm just not happy with having that small of gauges especially for the tach and speedo. It still be my only option. I don't like my autogauge set under the dash.

I'll do a search for a pic of a '68 baracuda dash and see if i like that better. People are going to really look at me funny after a dash swap.

I am about to head out the door for a week's vacation (fishing!), so I won't be able to schmooze too much until then, but I think we can work something out when I get back. I still have your pics and a couple of ideas.

I can re-fab most of the front face if I remember correctly, giving you some more space. if you can still get your buddy (brother? I can't remember) to drop it by I can get you some cad drawings of some options.

I'm easy. If you don't see what you like in a NOS part, let me know.

if you need my number again let me know.
