Question, anyone know of a source for a new 1bbl. Holley #1945 for my 86 van a/t.....or a good rebuild service?? my choke plate shaft is worn out, too much play side to side?? I think...it seems no amount of adjusting will get it to close for start ups.....once running its great.Over night the choke plate hangs up, and won't close unless by hand after moving the the fast idle screw to the top position on the fast idle cam, we've even tried to emory cloth the edges of the butterfly plate, in case that was the hang up ....no luck. Any ideas???? Thanks

I've had the choke hang up on my 1945 carbs if the air cleaner housing was not correctly installed.
Also check the hoses on the bottom of the air cleaner housing for the heated air door. Sometimes
they come out of the little metal tabs that hold them in place and then they hang down and
interfere with the choke linkage. Look for any mechanical interference that occurs when the air
filter housing is installed. This may be difficult to do.

Have you tried a Chrysler dealer for a new carb? I checked on one for my 1987 slant 6 truck
about 5-7 years ago. (The carb on that one is worn out in the throttle body area) They wanted $460. OUCH!! I think
your '86 van will have the ESA (Electronic Spark Advance) system and probably a electronically
controlled lock-up torque converter. If so then the curb idle ground switch (which is part of the
carburetor)must be hooked up and functioning. It provides a signal to the computer that controls
spark advance (cancels advance from speed and vacuum when throttle is at idle position) and also
enhances operation of the lock-up torque converter.

I have substituted an earlier model carb with out the curb idle ground switch and left the wires to
the computer disconnected. It will still run OK and most people would never know the difference
in operation of the torque converter and spark advance.

I've never been able to find concrete information on this but I suspect the carburetors for the ESA
system are specially calibrated too. I have found information that hinted toward this. Wish I knew
more on this one.

Hey Craig, Thanks for the info,I'll check out the connections for the air cleanr and elecs. for the ESA system. Yeah the Mopar stuff is pretty stiff in the wallet dept. that's if they even have any left on the shelves....around here they have very little and arn't to interested in getting any... that's why I was looking for another source for a carb ....Thanks for your help!
