My 904 tranny flairs a bit between 1st and 2nd (engine revs for a second or so between shifts). This is a pure stock tranny (right now). I was planning on general maintenance like band adjustments this weekend, but is there anything specific regarding the above that I should look for? Thanks! ________ justin bieber fans |

Change the filter and fluid, sometimes the filter can start sucking air and a new one will help. I think you're on the right track though with the band adjustments, remember one of the band adjustments is inside of the case but the one for second gear is the one on the outside of the case. The second gear band (and even the low/rev band) have a piston with seals that control the band. You should pull this apart and inspect because a leaking seals can cause the delay in band engagement also. Any local trans shop can supply these seals so you can replace them when you're doing the filter change and band adjustment. Also look for bad spots in the bore where the piston rides, and even bent band strut rods. Using type F fluid can help also. Of course it may be too late and the trans is on its way out but you may save it also. Also make sure the kickdown linkage is working and set right. This is the number one cause of the bands starting to slip because of not having enough pressure applied at the piston (which the kickdown linkage increases pressure in the trans when working right). Once the pressure is down, then the band can slip which leads to the band getting loose and needing adjustment. Jess |
