Post subject:  Scored a flywheel

Thanks to DionR's help, yesterday I was able to score a bellhousing and a flywheel off of a '77 van, along with a clutch and pressure plate (to use as cores) all for less than $30.

My question is, since the engine I'm putting in my car is a '66, is there maybe some sort of adapter ring I can use so that I can bolt this flywheel onto the '66 crank and still have it centered? I'll have it checked for cracks, and if it's usable, resurfaced before I try to install it, but I just wanted to make sure there is a way it can be done before I spend any money (or time) on it.

Post subject:  jopapa, do you need the small hole flywheel?

Jopapa,

It reads like you need a small hole flywheel. If so, I have one, excellent, and real cheap. I have the matching '64 truck shotpeened crank you can have free for shipping, with the bearing caps, too.

Rock if he does not need it I can use the crank.

I also have a small hole flywheel but its a pretty big one and I am not sure it will work with your bellhousing. Its for the low mount starter set up and came out of a 63 truck with the big cast iron bellset that is hugh.

I might take you up on the flywheel. I can't tell by eyeballing (and I can't get to the back of the engine's crank because of the stand), but once I look at it with a micrometer I'll let you know.

Thanks for lettin me know.

Post subject:  Lucky, glad for you to get the crank!

Lucky,

Man, glad for you to get it! It is perfect. I bought my '64 nearly new and this is the crank that was in it, plus the bearing caps. I never abused the engine and it had 128,000 miles on it when I got slant fever and built the little powerhouse I run now. I too have the old iron bell and the huge flywheel, but swapped to A833 OD stuff for a while, now running a 727.

I had the crank checked for balance and wear at my machine shop and they found to be basically new and balanced. Now, this is a heavy sucker. I think it is about 80 pounds. I would ship DHL or Greyhound bus. I would put it on a small pallet and protect it with a cardboard cover so it is not so obvious what it is. From Raleigh, NC to where?

PM me.
