I have located all the bad spots in my wire harness. Several of them involve melted firewall pass through connections. The fuse panel is a rusted mess.

Is there some place I can get new old stock or reproduction connectors that will replace the old junk I dealing with?

I don't want to purchase a new harness. The conductors are in good shape. I just fix the few problem areas.

I think what he's talking about is the large connection block at the firewall itself. Perhaps the housing got melted or deformed somehow?

I myself am looking for a new one, preferably a repro of the original style firewall block with open terminals so I can crimp/solder new wires in place as I go through my harness. Haven't found anything yet though.

The bulkhead connector is not availalble new from any source that I know of. Best bet is to either find it used or improvise with something else.

Looks as if I'm going to have to improvise, as two of the terminals are rather melted. One at the termination of the fusible link (Z), and (Q) was drilled so a conductor could pass through.

I'm not sure how I'm going to accomplish a disconnect between the front and dash harness with out making a separate small opening in the fire wall for one or two wires.

I'll think of something.

How do the reproduction harness sets over come the dreaded bulkhead disconnect?

I've been considering pulling the connector out completely, patching the opening in the firewall, then installing a newer, better bulkhead connector on the firewall. Problem is I can't find anything that'll take 16 and 14 gauge wiring. It's all 18-22 gauge stuff I've been finding, or bulkhead connectors that only hold one or two wires. I'd do multiples of four if I had to, but that's still pushing it.

Y'know, I'm actually impressed with the bulkhead electrical pass-through on my '89 Dodge D100 pickup. It's the same general type as used on our older cars, but much more weatherproof and with a solid bolt-on connector that cannot work loose. You might want to take a look through your nearest wrecking yard and see if such a thing could be adapted for your needs. Another option would be to dispense with the bulkhead disconnect altogether, replacing it with a thick, sturdy rubber grommet with a hole poked in it for each wire that must pass through it.

I've considered going this route and using Weatherpak connectors (GM got a couple things right with electrical applications) at appropriate locations in the engine compartment. It'd definitely help maintain the integrity and maintainability of the wiring harness. That still leaves the issue of patching the hole in the firewall and drilling new holes though. I may just dig around for a later model connector and use new terminals if I can find them.

Thanks to Slant Six Dan I located a NOS Bulkhead at Evens Wiring, they are fabing up the rubber ended temperature lead, and brake pressure lead for me.

I have a a bunch of spades and "spadettes" coming from Ron Francis so the old Dart won't be needing a fire permit this summer.

When I emailed them they told me they didn't have the bulkhead connector. I think mine is still good, but it good to know someone is repopping them.

When I've need replacement bulkhead connectors for the Tidewater Mopar Club giveaway cars, I've found that there is great interchange in the housings and scrounging up an suitable donar was never difficult.

The people who make stock replacement harnesses (not Painless; try Year One's suppliers, etc.) must get theirs someplace and might be willing to sell you one.

tomorrow is going to be wiring day. My NOS bulkhead disconnect arrived today, and a few other wiring items as well. Hopefully I can get all the connectors rebuilt with new brass tomorrow.

Just waiting for the new fuse block to show up. No more rusted glass tube fuses to deal with!!!

And, for now I am going to use the fusible link method of over current protection.

Did you get new terminals to use with your new bulkhead connector? I'd be interested to see pics of the new part Vs. the old part.

I have new brass terminals, and the block & three engine compartment plug caps look just like they came out of the factory in 67'. It is a beautiful thing.

Now if it would just warm up to the freezing point in the garage, all would be well.

As for the photos, I don't use any sort of site as Web Shots, et, el, making posting a hardship. Perhaps I should look into setting up an account somewhere. Any ideas as to a real easy site to use for a computer simpleton.
