Just curious if putting an x-pipe in the exhaust system (say pretty soon after the collectors and before the mufflers) really helps as much as I've heard it does. Do you guys run them? Advantages/disadvantages? Would you use again/worth the money?
Thanks,
Stephan

I always use a "cross-over" (balance tube) in dual pipe inline six applications.
The main advange is noise control, the balance pipe helps cancel the drone you get out of an in-line 6.
You also get better mid-range power but at the price of some high RPM loss.

Dual exhaust is a V8 thing. I only run single with a Y-pipe just behind the trans x-member. Works great. This assumes you have dual outlet headers.

Some of the guys out here have gone to the extra work to run a "X" pipe and duals. They say it helps out down low and through the mids when shifting. The sound is fabulous, very refined, not like running separate pipes.

When I can get a pair of Hooker Super comps I will plumb them with and "X" pipe and two of the Thrush Welded mufflers. They have a real nice sound.
Nothing like adding some more torque...... :D

I welded a H balance pipe between my true duals as suggested by doc and slant six dan, and the noise control results was amazing, the low-mid "oomph" was WAY more noticeable and didn't loose any top end (at least not noticeable seatofthepants wise)

I ran 1 5/8 primaries, 1 7/8 collector (long collector) and 2,25" all the way to the tail with no mufflers.
