Hi guys, can you help me out and see where i can start checking my duster, i was driving last friday and started to hear a "ticking" sound and suddently it went off faster and a little louder afterwards i heard something "popped". I pulled over, opened the hood and nothing visible, so i tried to fire it up again, but never could, had to tow it home, so what can i start checking to see what's wrong with it, maybe the timing belt? or something. Any help would be great. Thanks! |

sorry guys, misspelled it's a 225 L6, also when i stepped on the gas pedal you could hear the ticking go off faster as i wen't faster, but if i wen't like 50 or 60 Miles the tickinh would disappear until it would go back to slow gear...... |

If it turns over ok. Take the cap off the dizzy and see if it turns when a friend bumps the starter. Basic fuel fire air checks. Frank |

OK! Does the engine crank when you turn the key? If yes does it sound like its trying to start or just "turning over" or cranking? Lets start there and have you report back. Frank |

O.k i see, yes it just cranks, i give it some gas, but doesn't seem to try to start at all, almost like it didn't have any gas, but it does..... |

A good place to start then would be to check that you are getting gas to the carb. Disconnect the fuel line where it attaches to the carb - get a container ready and have someone crank the engine. You should get a decent stream of gas pulsing out of the line. If you don't you probably have a faulty fuel pump or a blockage (maybe in the filter). d |

easyer than that is take your air cleaner off and 1. have yor buddy pump the gas and you look down the carb (dont crank the engine just pump the gas) and see if you get a good squirt of gas. 2. if you dont have a buddy just operate the throttle linkage and look down and see if you have gas squirting into the carb. Then if you dont preform the procedure in the post above this one. If you are getting gas then we need to check for spark. Frank |
