Post subject: | question on rpm's |
What would you have to do to a 225 to get 7000 rpm's out of it? The reason I ask is that I bought a motor that was built and in a 66 Sport Fury, put it in a HA/GR and this thing will turn 7000 rpm. It does have a cam, not sure of what type, a lot of head work has been done from what I can see. I'm running two BBD's and open pipes and it is not running rich, seems to run fine. I'm putting a lower geared rear under it as the 355's are not enough for the 1/4 mile. As soon as that is done, I will post some 1/8 and 1/4 mile times. Robert |

I would be scared to rev 7K. Most of the cars Ive seen are limited to 5500 to 6K max and a lot of us shift at 5K. Hope this help you. Frank |

I have been running this thing for about three months and it has no problem turning 7000. That is why I asked this question. |

Most Slants will turn 7000 with a big cam and a good set of valve springs. Most won't make much power above 6500. ![]() If it has stock rods in it you are flirting with disaster. ![]() Might wanna check your tach. ![]() |

I inadvertently down shifted at the finish line and turned my stroker to 6900rpm. (data logger as evidence) I will say that things sound alot different at the level. |

Like the sound of the brick tearing through the seat of your shorts....![]() Yeah, I push mine to 6200 tops and wouldn't advise going too much higher on stock components... -D.Idiot |

It would be interesting to know whats in it, and what 1/4 times it turns The reason I ask is that I bought a motor that was built and in a 66 Sport Fury, put it in a HA/GR and this thing will turn 7000 rpm. It does have a cam, not sure of what type, a lot of head work has been done from what I can see. I'm running two BBD's and open pipes and it is not running rich, seems to run fine. Robert ( what it MPH will tell more about the power). A engine that is really making power at that RPM level will reach the RPM's with ease, it will almost seem to easy. If someone went ot the trouble of setting up a cam, valve train and head that will turn that kinda RPM with power, its hard to tell what they may have done to the bottom end. The fact that its still together says something in itself. Jess |

As it sits right now, 1800 pounds of car, 6" bias ply tires on the back, three speed car tranny and 355 open rear under it, it runs 14.2 at 98 mph. It is only pulling 4500 across the line at the end of the 1/4. I plan on putting a 426 gear under it, using only third and fouth gear through the 1/4. After I tore the car three speed up, I installed a truck tranny with the 10" clutch. In a couple of weeks, I will post some of the times with this setup as I expect the ets to drop drastically. Be careful with this clutch, as a few memebers have grenaded things with the 10" clutch... I keep the 9.25" only because if something goes horribly wrong the springs tend to 'bounce' and keep it from locking up and fragging the bell and my feet...-d.Idiot |

I'm running a 1/4" steel scattershield and it is a good thing. I grenaded the pressure plate on the 9 1/4" clutch at the track about a month ago. The thing broke in to four pieces, that I could find. I have run the 10" clutch for over a year with no problems, that is why i am going back to it. We'll see what happens with it. Robert |

Robert, I think I would shoot for a trap rpm of 5,500 to 6,000 max. It seams like most 225 race motors, unless very radical, lay down in that range. Remember your tire limitations, the deeper the gear, the harder it will be to hook up. |
