"Remanufactured" parts are junk. You will wind up unhappy sooner or much sooner ("lifetime warranty" means you get to spend your lifetime replacing the part again and again under warranty...what a deal!  )If you have the time, take your starter to a local auto electrical (starter/alternator) rebuilder and have it bench-rebuilt. The resultant part will be of much higher quality and reliability than the junk from the parts store. If you don't have the time to wait around for a rebuild, then hit a wrecking yard for a starter from an '89-'01 Dodge Ram or Dakota pickup or (full-size) van with 3.9 V6 or 5.2 or 5.9 V8. This is the high-speed mini-starter people are always talking about. It'll drop right in place on your slant-6. A used part of this type will still be much preferable to a "remanufactured" piece from the parts store. And don't be fooled by "100% new" verbiage applied to parts store starters and alternators. Sure, the components are 100% new...that is, they're 100% new counterfeit knockoff garbage from China.

ok so i should get my starter rebuilt i think its from a 80 maurder or somthing not a truck.. it came off the engine because the one that it came with was some new nock off and it blew |

The one you've linked to on eBay is one of the Chinese knockoffs. The real late-type starters look just like it, but aren't made out of compressed Chinese 7-year-old political dissidents . When buying starters like this, skip the ones that lack a Chrysler/Denso/Nippondenso part ID tag or plate on them. Also, the round motor housing on the real ones is painted a light silver; this one you're showing us is plated rather than painted, and other fakes have other colours of paint (green seems popular at the moment).There's no truck vs. car difference in the starter motors such as your '87 came with, so even if the one you have wasn't original to the truck, it's OK. Also, I've fixed your eBay link. I recently did that starter swap, on my 66 Valiant. The original starter weighed 14 lbs, and the Nippondenso starter was 7 lbs. I am getting ready to replace the stock 39 amp alternator, with the 90+ amp Nippondenso unit from a 89 Dakota. The nippondenso unit is 13 lbs compared to 14 lbs for the original. |

No, this what you're pointing at is a "remanufactured" starter — see above — and it is the wrong one, at that. The one you need has a nose cone. Looks like you looked up the wrong year and the wrong engine. |

Dude, this is your best bet. And you can't beat the price!!! Im running 3 junker mini's on my car's and they have been very reliable for the past 5 years and counting.

I love the junkyard mini Dakota starter. Its very reliable, lite and cranks about twice as fast. Most Dodge/Plymouths that I see crank for a few seconds before they fire up. Not mine. Just touch the key and it comes to life. I contribute it to the fast cranking speed. |

The mini's lack the familiar Mopar whine on startup that is part of the experience, along with rotted fenders where the water pools on the flat spot.

Yup. That's why I use the Chrysler-built starters rather than the miniature ones. But I have to be honest about it; the miniature ones are better in every quantifiable way: lighter, stronger, etc.
