I hope your cutting torch and welding skills are up to par, because you'r gonna be using them... (that and a showhorn, pry bar... and the costco size bucket of KY to force that fat block into the narrow engine bay)...

The 318 poly uses many of the parts the 1967 LA block 318 uses ... but its a bit bigger and heavier, and it doesn't have as many easy to get parts...

Now for the cost of your conversion you could get a gas mileage getting performance slant that will probably equal that 318...

I think exhaust manifolds (or lack of any that fit this application) is the "show stopping" issue to overcome.

Nope, the bellhousings and proposed motors are different.

Post subject:  Your mopar tranny pattern lesson...

Like all auto manufacturers bellhousings usually are grouped by an engine
type/family/application...

Mopar kept things real simple:

slant-6 only
A/LA Engine (318 poly, and all 273-360-5.9 Magnum engines)
Big Block (350-440)
(and later the Jeep 4.0L-AMC I-6 family)

You will have to have an adaptor to go from one to the other, or the proper tranny... the slant six tranny (if an auto) would not like the brutal abuse the 318 would put on it anyway.

Mopar is actually a nightmare compared to Chevy.

4 cyl. Nova motor, straight and V-6 cylinder, small block, pig block. Same bolt pattern. :?

But definately much nicer than Ford! (Lemme see... the 351C is a small block, but the extended deck 400C only bolts to the 429/460 pig block tranny... and which pig block is it 427/428 or a 429/460?)

If I recall, correctly, there is even a difference in the bolt pattern of the 289 or 302, depending on the year.

Isn't the 318 wideblock also supposed to take the chrysler firepower hemi heads? If so I'd grab some of those parts and make that 318 poly a decent motor instead of an iron lung.

The split was in the 289 at 1964 IIRC. 4 bolt or 5 bolt pattern.

221,260 and 4 bolt 289 go together.

5 bolt is the same as 302/351 C&W.

331,352,360,390,406,427, and 428 were the same.

351-M/400, 429, and 460.

Easy as cake, right?

Unless you want to get into all the different Mercury/Lincoln/truck ones too.
