I found an OLD P/U truck with a slant six and a low starter. Does this mean that it has the adaptor that can adapt a slant to the V8 bell? It looks like it, but before I pull the tranny and bell and all that, I want to be sure.

Its a slant with a low starter, 3 speed column shifter manual tranny.

any thoughts?

Yup, it should have the adaptor pieces you need (adaptor plate and crank tailflange spacer). Interesting...didn't realise they used those on manual-trans applications.

The manual tranny deal is what had me worried. That's why I didn't pull it right off during my search for other stuff....I'll go back Sunday.

I assume I need to pull off the flywheel to get the spacer right?

The adapter in a manual trans application seems to be truck only. I have seen a couple other guys post that they had found one, but I am not sure if it is the same as the automatic car one.

Aww man! I guess it would allow me to adapt a slant to Dakota 5 speed at least.

Interesting... my 11" bell from a 1963 with the NP435 did not use the adaptor plate... if the 3 speed version does, then I'd better get over to Pick A Part and check that one out...

I'm pretty sure the adapter was only used on the automatics as there has always been a bellhousing to use a manual behind the slant, but not always a 727 case.

Can you tell if it has an adapter between the block and the bell?

If not, he's got the world's only known G/RG engine with A/LA rear flange pattern!

There are slant patterned and dual slant/LA patterned bellhousings for truck 4-speeds like the NP435 in Midi's truck. No revelation here. If one wants the slant to LA adapter you have to find an old automatic equipped truck or van that predates the G/RG 727 case. I had a slant to LA adapter and it came from an A108 van.
