Should I get new spark plug tubes and seals (are there seals that go there?) for my slant? I've crossed the 1/2 way point on the rebuild. I'm starting to put stuff back together with all the new parts and was wondering about the plug tubes.

If so, where do I get them? It's for a '64 225

Inspect the tubes, the should be fine.

But get new seals.

Tube seals will be in the gasket set. They are the "square" cut "O" rings.

Ok, thanks. Dumb question, but where do the seals go-between the plug and the tube or between the tube and the block? My engine didn't have any when I pulled them out-guess it's a good thing I'm putting them in. I'll look at the gasket set today and see if I can see where they go.

They slip over the tube and form a seal between the lip of the tube and the block. (cylinder head)

Don't forget to remove the metal ring washers from the spark plugs before installing them -- they're not used on '63-'74 slant-6 heads.

The old tube seals may have stuck to the head rather than the tube.........

What would happen if you didn't remove the washer from the spark plugs on a 70 198 /6? I just bought one and am having trouble getting it to start. I know I have some carb issues, but just caught this thread and wondered if this may be aggravating the situation. Thanks!!

The presence of the plug washers probably isn't affecting the engine's ability to start. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions are in this thread. If you'll post a new topic here in the Engine forum detailing the problem you're having and what you've tried so far, we can help you get it solved.
