Post subject: | Finding TDC |
Today I was working on finding TDC. I was checking the marks on the pulley. I placed a long socket extension in the #1 plug hole and when it got to one mark the extension stopped moving out , and when it got to the other mark the extension stopped moving in. I marked the notch that had the extension all of the way out. Is the notch that I marked TDC? maybe a stupid question , but I want to be sure. I am glad I took my valve cover off to check because a couple of the bolts that hold down beside the rockers were lose ( I could loosen them with my hand , so I need to fix that also. Thanks for any replies Dave |

Yes, it is TDC, but there are 2 TDC's in a 4 stroke engine. You will either be at TDC for firing or exhausting. TDC for firing is when both valves on that cylinder are closed. |

So you want both of the rocker arms all of the way down to be TDC for firing |

Down on the pushrod end, yes. |

So down on the push rod end means that the 2 springs should be fully extended. I have also learned when turning crank with fan belt you might want to wear some gloves (ouch!) |

Yep, valves up is closed. Gotta have the valves closed to make compression. |

Tighten the rocker pillar bolts to 25 lb/ft. You don't mean the cylinder head bolts, right?

You may want to check the head bolt torque and the valve lash clearances while you have the cover off. Ask if you need more info on how to do this. DD |
