Post subject:  piston deck height? *PIC*

Lou and I installed the crank and pistons today (except for one ring). The piston to deck height seem high. We measured it at .180 +-.005. Has anyone measured a deck height this high? The piston compression height (pin center and top of pistion) is 1.74.

I'm considering milling the block or the head. The head is still off and easy to haul around. I want to run 9.5 to 10 to 1 stattic compression and a 230 to 240 @50 cam and 3 Weber DCOE 40 carbs. (Probably N2O someday?). Oh, and a A 833 and a 3.23 8 3/4 posi.

Anybody have a reccomendation for a cam about this size?

Thanks

well i used a mopar performance 276° "purple shaft"? cam in my duster with 3 x 2 barrel 40 mm carbs with compression somewhere 10...

because the top of the piston was -1,75mm under the deck...sorry bout the measures...with the cam it was a beauty to drive. in traffic and in highways...

A while back when I was building my "Screamin' Six" engine, I used Sterling 244NP pistons in a 30 overbore. They have a 1.74 compression height also. I had the block cut 60 under blueprint specs for compression. Pistons ended up at .105" down at TDC. The mains were line honed, so that might account for a few thousandths.
With a stock Fel-Pro 0.039" head gasket and 55.72 (average) cc combustion chambers, I've got a 9.04 compression, and 190-195 psi cranking pressure. My pistons are flat tops like yours.
