Post subject:  Headlight Switch and Plug

The headlight switch on my '75 failed - slowly - and in the process it heated up to the point where the connector plug on the rear has burned / melted. I have tracked down a replacement switch (Echlin 6571) but my question is about the plug.

Will I be okay if, instead of finding or fabricating a new plug, I attach to the end of each individual wire an insulated spade-receptacle? Like a set of quick-disconnects to mate with the seven spade terminals on the back of the switch?

Has anyone else done this? Thanks

Yup, this'll work fine if that is how you'd like to do it.

To take the workload off the switch and prevent the new one cooking (and have brighter headlights into the bargain), do this.

Thanks; that certainly explains why the old one got fried.

I like the idea of keeping the headlamp current out of the instrument panel entirely and especially out of the load on the ammeter.

I will email you, Dan, about the relay parts.
