Doc - Pulled the engine and tore down. The rear cam bearing is in correctly (both holes lined up and passages open).
The rear cam bearing is not grooved. The cam (Hughes Racing) has no holes drilled thru the rear journal, as I understand from you, there should be a hole thru the rear journal of the cam to feed oil from one passage to the other as it rotates - correct? Looks like the rear cam journal was getting oil but had nowhere to go.

You found the problem, drill a hole or groove the bearing. Do you have a stock cam to look at?
This pic shows the cross-hole.
Where are you located? I can send you a sample to drill by if needed.

Doug, were you in Clay City the year we had a big discussion about the necessity of the hole in the cam? It was after someone had had a cam built without it and didn't have the hole drilled. We had every Slant guy in the place there, and nobody knew the answer! (We do now though!)

Don't forget the other hole in rear of camshaft. the front to rear hole that relieves oil pressure from building up behind the plug in the back of the block.

I missed that discussion in Clay City but have seen this problem before. Once I had a cam which looked OK (the holes were in it)to bad the holes did not meet-up in the middle! I always check the crosshole now, a quick squirt of carb cleaner or WD-40 tells the story right away.
