I know there have been posts about dropping pans or oil pumps but... what about mounts? I've dropped pan before in my car (71 duster), but I can't remember how much clearance was left on the mounts.

Also, is it safe to jack the engine up by the bellhousing? Trying to see if its possible to do it w/o a hoist. Not sure if the aluminum in the 904 is sturdy enough. Was always iffy about using wood under the pan since pickup is so close.

Yes, no problem. Just leave one side connected at a time and jack up the BH or even the oilpan with a wide block of wood (I've done both).

You may have to pull the metal mount/bracket on the engine on one or both sides to slide it all out.
