Hey guys  All questions/comments aside, anyone know where to acquire an EGR plug/plate (a plate to bolt in where the valve goes)? I have one for a LA, but not an RG. Looking to simplify and remove all the emissions equipment and replace it all with something a lot more elegant and useful that should yield both more power and better gas efficiency/much better emissions. I'd like to remove all the vacuum goodness  Thanks!

What do you have? Year and model? That will help to get started. I run an early truck manifold on my engine. No EGR. But It works with my engine/Distributor/carb. CJ |

1980 LeBaron Coupe - /6 with a Holley 1945 and the emission circus, complete with diagnostic connector. I would prefer lean burn in this case - it would be less to butcher. Oh well I'm looking to work backwards before I look forwards - I want a setup that is somewhat related to a '60's setup, ie only brakes and distributor on vacuum, before I work forwards. Thanks! |

EGR blockoff plate is #3671 447, still available from the dealer. Use an EGR valve gasket. But be advised, a lot of good and useful things are hooked up to vacuum on your '80, not just bad things. Ripping things out wholesale until your '80 is configured like a '64 is not the smart way forward. It will cost you driveability and economy and make the car considerably less safe. |

Vacuum emissions accessories are costing me drivability and economy right now. Instead of fixing everything and then having to maintain my rat's nest in the future, I'd much rather remove it. The car's going on oxyhydrogen (which scores in both the drivability and economy department) - I'd like the configuration to be as simple as possibile for maintenance and sanity's sake. I'm not disconnecting the power brakes - what's up with the safety advisory? Anywho, thanks for the part number. |

It's not an either/or situation. Lumping all vacuum-operated "emissions accessories" into one big category is not productive. The PCV system is a vacuum operated emissions system, and gives only benefit, no drawback. Same with the thermostatic air cleaner. Same with the charcoal canister.

Perhaps I wasn't too clear - I'm not going for an all out strip fest. The PCV stays and well - the simple stuff stays. The vacuum line love fest controlling some other stuff is going. Regardless, as I said - all questions and comments aside. I was merely looking for a part - not a discussion, argument, or pitch for converting to Quantum Presbytarianism. I have a fair idea of what I'm doing, I've already made up my mind to do it, and I'm not going to change my mind I know we do things differently, and obviously have different points of view. That's why you have your cars, and I have mine. If I am looking for advice, trust me, I'll ask. I am not the blind charge ahead type. Your opinions, facts, and points of view have all been noted. Thank you for the part number...now lets move on

My '78 Volare's 225 started out with a bunch of smog equipment, lots of vacuum hose under the hood. Things are much simpler under it's hood these days. I agree that one should not be too hasty when removing/bypassing certain equipment. Each of these items were removed one at a time, and at least several days apart. I converted from power brakes to manual brakes. I've considered swapping in a manual steering gear, but I really like my Grant steering wheel, so the jury is still out on that one. I want to do some rewiring under the hood, but I'm a little unsure about how to start that project. I'd like to do it a little at a time if possible. Anyway, safety is something that we should all keep in mind, and I think we're all aware of that. I have a mechanic friend, who every once in a while will tell me "Wes, you don't want to do that". Sometimes I need to hear that... |

I forgot to mention that a few years ago, I bought an EGR blockoff plate on Ebay. Shiny, looks kinda like chrome. I think the price was about $12 dollars. |
