| Post subject: | i broke it |
ok so im going down the road the other day and al of a sudden i hear a pop and the car dies. i put it into neutral and try to restart it and no dice. so i pull over and the first thing i think is wet distributor, i had just washed the car. nope, it still has spark, ok, so i try to restart it after giving it a once over, no luck, and there seems to be alot of smoke coming out of the breather. so i tow it home and cant find anything externally wrong, and i check the timing and low and behold the timings off. so i pull the timing set and cam and a few of the lobes were starting to go down. so now i need a new cam and timing set. i was wondering if anyone is using this cam from summit and how its working. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku Thanks for any input |

That's an OK cam, but there have been quality issues from Comp. I would rather you went with a 254° Erson for a stock application. Was the engine in good condition as far as compression and oil use previously? Valves and guides in good shape? |

that happened to the Hpak duster a block from my house luckily... The cam decided to walk enough to knock the offset bushing out of the Dyna gear double roller cam sprocket... There must be some kind of issue with the bearing clearance and how machinists are setting things up these days... set everything back into order and put a cam button in the timing cover... so far the cam has been rock solid ever since, and did the same to my other slant with a new comp cam in it, that one hasn't walked or had a problem yet... Get the erson cam, and make sure to put some insurance into a cam button 'just in case'... -D.Idiot |
