Hey guys, New to the forum and had a question on carbs. I have a 225 in my '66 Coronet with a Holley Model #1920. My question is, are all Holley #1920's the same as in linkage (throttle, kick-down), fuel inlet, etc. Any and all information would be great. Thanks, Phil |

SS Dan will give you the real scoop... Basicly the 1920 is the same. That being said there are a LOT of variations as to years. Different ports etc for the polution control and emissions of the time. 66 down to I think 64 is the same. My01 1/2.  Frank |

I only ask because I'm looking at getting an NOS 1bbl for my build (to replace my tired and worn original) and the picture I saw looked just like mine. I'm trying to get a couple more pics to make sure but I thought I'd ask if there was any differences other than the obvious (linkage, vacuum ports...). The guy says that these carbs were used on many (now don't flame on me here) Fords, Internationals, and Jeeps with the 6's. |

The guy may be trying to sell you an unsuitable carburetor. There are a couple of interchangeability groups (mainly by year range) within the carbs originally used on slant-6s. Holley carburetors similar to the 1920 were used on other makes, but none of them had linkage and other hookups compatible with Chrysler-built vehicles. What exact, specific 1920 is he offering you? Get the carb's "list number" or "type number" from the seller. It will have four digits, sometimes followed by one or more additional characters. Be sure to get the right number; there are also casting numbers on these carburetors, and those won't give you any useful information. The carb's type number is here on a pre-1970/71 carb with atmospheric bowl vent:  ...and here on a 1970/71-up carb with ducted bowl vent:  Once the seller gives you this information, report it here or send me a PM and I can tell you what vehicle(s) the carburetor was really manufactured to fit. If the carb in question isn't right for your application, or the seller won't give you the info, or tries to push the idea that "they're all the same", or his price is unreasonable, or whatever, I've still got a fair number of NOS 1bbl slant-6 carbs for sale. |

Here's the numbers he gave me in an e-mail. "Top of bowl 142931 stamped in ink...Main body near inlet 687G over 5159398 stamped into metal itself." The picture that I've seen looks like the pre-1970/71 carb. Same style as I have on mine now. Hope you can decipher what those numbers are. Thanks. |

No good, none of those is the type number. Ink stamping makes me suspicious this might be a remanufactured rather than new carburetor, and the 7-digit number looks supiciously like an AMC part number. The type number is always four digits. Three digits and a letter don't count. While the seller looks again for the type number, maybe you can show us as many views as possible of the carb you're thinking of buying. |

Tough to say without seeing the whole throttle lever (which looks as though it's hiding behind the paper tag in this photo). Until we know that, this could be a Chrysler product carb, or could be an AMC unit. It does look like it is probably a new one. It was made later than '66, but is definitely originally for a pre-1971 application. What we need is an exact report on the highlighted numbers:

I just fired off another e-mail to him with a copy of the highlighted carb. If this ends up not being a carb that I can use, you say that you might have a few NOS carbs available for sale? If so, what are you looking to get out of one that will work for my application? The list number that I have on the car now is (LIST - 3919) with (333 7) under that. |
