Post subject: How much vacuum advance?
PostPosted: Thu Dec 13, 2001 6:24 pm
Hi Doug

How much advance should the 225 w/ electronic ignition have? If I have the advance plugged at the carb and timing set to 10 degrees, the max advance I will get is 15 degrees and the car will run OK. If I have the advance connected and timing set to 10 degrees, the advance will jump to 25+ degrees by 1100 RPM. At this point the engine will be missing badly. Is the what I should be seeing?

Thank you.

Many of the electronic distributors are set-up as you have, lots of vacuum advance and not much mechanical. I would think the missing would be on an out of gear rev-up and not as much under driving loads. (vacuum advance acts as a retard under load)

Degree your distributor for the best over-all performance for your set-up. You can change the vacuum advance pod if needed, there is a number stamped on the arm which gives the amount of advance, multiply by 2 for crankshaft degrees.
Did you read-up on the distributor recurve instruction?
