Post subject:  Wiring From Newer Turn Signal Switch And A Different Harness

Hi. I have installed a 1966 turn signal switch in my 1963 valiant. The harness' are different so I have clipped all the wires. I have matched the colors and have 2 tan wires connecting to a single tan one and 2 light green wires connecting to a single of the same color also. The others are red/red, white/white, etc... My signals are not working correctly. My brake lights don't work. I am frustrated as I have downloaded wiring diagrams and they seem to logically match up. Does anyone have any advice? Am I being an idiot, cuz I sure feel like one? Thanks very much. John.

Actually...the only difference between a '63 turn signal switch and a '66 turn signal switch would be the terminals at the ends of the wires. Same number and colours of wire, but the '62-'63 cars used 1/4" blade connectors, and the '64+ cars used tang-and-box connectors. The wiring itself is the same. I wonder if what you think is a '66 A-body switch might in fact be something different. Where did you get the "new" switch?

Post subject:  wiring on a '63 signet

Thanks for your reply. It seems to me that they are exactly the same. I took the wiring out of a '66 steering column. The wires are tan, brown, red, black, white, light green, and dark green. The lt grn and tan are 2 each from the column going into one wire. These are the front and rear signals. The thing is I don't know if I am connecting them properly. Both rear signals light up and only the front right. The left front will only when I play around w/ the connections. I am just wondering what the hell I'm doing wrong and feeling frustrated and stupid. Anyway, if you have any more info let me know. Thanks for responding. John.

1. A '66 steering column from what model?
2. Was this '66 turn signal switch known to work correctly in the car it was originally installed in...?

It is hard to find a "good" used turn signal switch.
You problem is likely in the switch itself.
How did you re-connect the cut wires?

it is off a 66' valiant and i believe it worked. i guess it could be faulty wiring. My car's wiring was working before and I just needed a switch that had good springs. ????
