I was wondering if this would fit my 71 Duster?

It seems to me there is a break in there somewhere, where the style of fresh air box changed. AT that point the hinged doors were done away with. Something tells me that the unit he is selling is not compatible with your hinged door fresh air boxes. This corresponded to when they went to the step-on emergency brake. Do you have a pull handle E brake? Maybe I am wrong here, but it is something to look at and figure out.

It is a huge and painful job to install factory A/C in a car not so equipped at the factory...and that's even if you're using components from a directly-compatible year (in your case, '67-'72). The '73 setup was one-year-only, with every bolt-up and connection location different from the setup used through '72, and the '74-'76 setup shared the bolt-ups and connections with '73, but worked differently.

I've added factory A/C to two vehicles. The first time I didn't know any better. The second time...well, I guess I'm just a slow learner. There will not be a third time.

From the discription, in the link, it sounds like an aftermarket, under dash unit. Ask the seller if he has any pictures. These are doable. Just remember the engine brackets and pulleys will be different for a slant six, then what he has (318).

Oh, y'know, now I reread the ad, I think you may be right. The question hinges on whether "under dash unit with controls" refers to two separate pieces (factory A/C) or one combined piece (aftermarket or dealer air). Definitely if you want to add A/C, a dealer/aftermarket setup is the way to go.

I used Classic Air's aftermarket unit, and was quite happy with it. They have since marketed a unit they call "perfect fit" which is supposed to be a bolt in. I would consider that if AC is important to you. The Duster air circulation is not as good as other A body cars with vent windows, and roll down rear windows. I have had both, and my Duster was much hotter inside than the Dart. I loved my Duster though. If I had it now, I would put Classic Air's perfect fit system in it.

Honestly, you might consider changing the color of your seat covers. If they are black, that soaks up the heat, and holds it. I changed mine on the Duster from black to gold, and the temp went down 20 degrees. This would seem especially appealling if your seat covers are old and tattered. In time I changed the door panels and painted the metal inner door shells gold as well.
I have often wondered if one of our members has that car now.

I decided not to get it. I'm not a big fan of anything aftermarket in my car (to an extent) and I guess I really don't want to affect my mileage after i've been working so hard to make it better.

It's nice to have AC, but I removed my '78 Volare's AC system years ago. It gets hot here in south Texas, but it's nice having less clutter under the hood. Just my opinion.
