I had a drama swapping cylinder heads and intake setups yesterday. I have a pin-hole water leak between the cylinder head and block. I can't see where the water is coming from, but I can hear it steaming on the headers when I turn the motor off. I have no oil in the water, and my top rad hose holds pressure. I pulled the rocker cover off and torqued the head down an additional 10ft/lbs which has helped, but I still have slight leak. I want to take the car to MoparSunday in a couple of weeks, but am not sure what to do (it's a 1200mile round trip). I guess I know the right thing to do is to pull it all apart again and replace the head gasket, but I really don't have the time to do so in the next 10 days. Will Chemiweld work here? Anyone recommend/warn against using it? More torque on the head bolts? (Will they take more or stretch?) I'd really appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance |

Any possibility that coolant is leaking around one of the studs that holds the manifolds in place? If it is the gasket, you should replace it before taking such a long trip. -Mac |

hello, my guess will be the back manifold stud. both front and back manifold studs definately go through to water and on some heads others as well. a simple fix,lower the coolant by popping the bottom radiator hose at the radiator and remove those studs and seal with (preferably) Loctite thread sealer. the GM (wash my mouth) thread sealer used on early Holden is alright too. do it with a hot engine to start with and once the coolant is out,it will dry nicely in 20 minutes or so. check those studs,and I am sure you will find your leak. do'nt ask how I know this ! regards Rod |
