The supersix kickdown linkage doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to reproduce. I hear about people finding mainfolds and carbs, but missing the linkage a lot of the time. Just wondering if you all think there would be any kind of market for a reproduction. Thoughts? Thanks CE |

Reproduction of these components correctly will be a great deal more costly and difficult than you may realise, and the volumes required to make them anywhere near affordable will create a supply much greater than the market would demand over a ten-year period, so a project like this would have to be a labour of love by someone with a lot of extra money and a lot of extra no-cost storage. Really, at this point there are options that make the 2bbl kickdown rods and levers not so necessary as it was before. |

I really like the looks of that cable setup Dan is talking about. However, things can still be found if you look. I have two of the super six kickdowns, one of them I fell into last week at the junk yard. I may end up not needing either of them if I mount my 4 barrel sideways. Not that the market will be flooded, but they will end up getting sold. I looked and looked and even rounded up a good 7.25 sure grip for a fair price. So aside from the nice cable setup for a good price, there are still too many parts out there and they do not really cost that much. It just takes time. |

Actually I was wondering why reproducing it is much harder and costly than one would think? It seems like an easy part to reproduce, so whats the reason? |

Do it! With the price of gas and 2bbl manifolds going for $100 on e bag i think a small run of kickdowns would sell. Its easy to find the manifolds hard to find the correct kickdown it seems. |

Because tooling, materials, and labour are expensive. So's shipping. It only seems easy if you have no experience in product development (i.e., arranging the tooling and production of parts).

I could build all of the mandrels to bend the linkage. It would just be larger versions of the mandrels I built to bend springs for the guns I build. I think I could build all this for much less than 1K. Flattening the end of the rod would be time consuming and expensive without a furnace and a press. (which I don't have) Milling the slot and the flat is pretty straight forward, and of course welding a small collar on the rod for the spring stop. If I was to make 100 of 'em I don't think it come close to breaking even, and I don't think I'd sell 100 of them either. If I could sell 500 or 1000 of them, I'd really have to think about it some more and do some prototyping. Just thinkin' out loud........ CE |
