Do these carbs work very well on the slant? What kind of power and mileage would you be looking at with it?

They can work well on a slant. But... you have to spend the $$$ to get the parts to tune it to your particular build. On top of that you will need a 2 barrel intake minimum and an adaptor.

Power within certain rpm limits would be better than the bbd, mileage can be similar or poorer (are you a lead foot?), depends on how you tune it and how you drive, also.

This setup is very popular in Argentina. I use 54 main jets and 85 power valve and works very good.

Millage is around 14-16 mpg on a 3500 pound car with A904 in city driving. On the road its around 18-20. But this depends a lot on the foot of the driver... holleys go fast if you want.. but they feed a lot!

Here´s a video reving... there it had a small lean acceletation pump problem witch I resolved yesterday... now its faster...

On this carb where does the hose from the distributor connect?

Post subject:  Holley 2-4 barrel 101...

These are sooo simple in that respect it's not even funny...

You should only have 3 hookups for vacc. on the carb...
3/8" tube at the base- PCV
1/8" tube under the fuel bowl at the base - vacc. tap for vacc. gauge
1/8" tube sticking out the left side of the metering block when looking at the fuel bowl... timed vacc. distributor port

That is fine unless you get one of the 'Ford' only designs, in which case
you have to rework the throttle lever a bit, and the PCV hook up is deleted from the carb base plate...

These carbs can be found regularly at swap meets in fairly rebuildable condition for $50-75 tops. (Rebuild kit for $30, and another $30+ in jets and misc. carb parts during the tuning phase...)

I use the one in the block.. but it redrill the hole in the butterflys body so that vaccum is present at engine idle.

Now i don´t use it anymore.. i setted timing to 18º idle ande 34º at 4000 rpm. I do use the same vaccum port for vaccum meter in orden to choose a correct power valve.

The one in the block must be there.

There are a couple of possibilities here...

like in the previous pic, the threaded tap may not be installed if it's that type of block...

You have a 'race' only metering block not drilled for the tap (vacc. advance on a circle track car is just not necessary)

they swapped the block with something else and tryed to make it work, it didn't so they dumped the carb...

The best way to tell if it's still OEM, is to check the numbers stamped into the airhorn on the right side above the metering block... in a similar location on the top of the metering block there will be a set of 4 digits, that should correspond with the one's on the airhorn... if not... somebody did a swap out...

I am new to carbs so bare with me. the block is on the side of the fuel bowl?

Author:  DusterIdiot [ Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:10 pm ]
Post subject:  Kind of...

The metering block is sandwiched between the fuelbowl and the actual caburator body itself....

Before you get too far into this, you need to get a book on Holley's...

It will give you the break down on the carb, carb numbers, parts numbering system, kits, jetting, theory....It'll be the best $20 spent...
