Right now I am get the head work work done for my baby and was told that I need to have my rocker arm assembly rebuild too, this I believe. I have a very good head company, Baker cylinder heads. So instead of having him rebuild the rocker arm back to stock specs, I picked up the 1.6 ratio assembly from Clifford for about $350. Was this the right way to go or not. Clifford, living up to the rep of not getting things out, as not shipped it yet is its not to late to return it.

Rocker Arm Specialist has what you need for $88.50 (PL-33).

The Clifford stuff looks just like stock rocker arms. They would have to search through 100s of rocker arms to find 12 that are enough better than 1.5:1 to advertise as being 1.6:1. I have serious reservations that they have gone through that effort.

Clifford is not manufacturing them someone else is. What is holding my order up is that are waiting on a different adjuster nut that they say will supply more oil to the head, persay.

Bzzzt! Wrong answer! The rocker shaft is (working backwards) oiled through a passage in the head that meets a passage in the block that leads down to the #4 cam bearing, the drilled passage in the cam itself and the main oil galley. No way, no how can an adjuster nut affect valve gear oiling!

I looked at the web site. GReat find. It looks like it is stock ratio. Do you know if they make a 1.6 set.

From what I have hear even thought the stock ratio should be 1.6 in a perfect world we are more then likely to have an uneven ration of around 1.4 to 1.5 do to the stamping of the arm. Please correct my assumption if I am out in left field. I the purpose behind this set up to have a unaformed ratio at 1.6.

Stock ratio is 1.5:1. Finding 12 rockers that are significantly better than 1.5:1 would be a very long process and would require access to 100s of rocker arms. If you want 1.6:1 rockers you'll need to spend a lot of money with a place like T&D, not Clifford. I've done all I can here.

I'm surprised no one's commented on the Lube Job can though.

Save your money and buy a set of RAS rebuilts. You will not see enough difference in performance to warrant the extra money on Clifford arms.

What Clifford is doing is waiting until 20 fools pay them $350 a set for rocker arms so they can have a run made.

We used to go through the exact same crap with Kenne-Bell when I raced Buicks. If they get enough orders in a week or two you get your parts. If it takes 6 months to get the orders, it takes 7 months to get your parts.

If you absolutely have to have 1.6 rockers, do like we did to Bell. Find out who is making his stuff and buy direct from them.

But then you don't get the exclusive, inside, hocus pocus, mumbo jumbo, we're better than the other guy even though he finishes first AND we're really the only game in town. Their stuff costs so much more, it must be better.

I still remember Jim himself trying to tell me that a new set of turbo headers I was returning (because they looked like junk) would seal fine if I used red silicone. About a month later one of their "factory" turbo cars pulled a DNF at a big buick event because of leaky headers. I'm glad saying no has never been a problem for me!

I got similar BS from another well known Texan in the turbo Buick world. Send in your part for some work and get a 2-3 day turnaround. 10 calls and 5 weeks later some piece of junk that was not mine and was unusable shows up. They had screwed it up experimenting on one of their cars and then sent it to me and kept mine. I got mine back but it was ugly. That good old hospitality can turn in a hurry!

There is just no shortage of it in automotive performance. Most of them seem to have had one good season or car that the owner ran, usually 20 or 30 years earlier, that is the basis of their whole status as a guru. They never seem to mention who actually built the car for them back then.
