Does Tire Size Effect Alignment Specs?

I am just speaking of size, not Type or construction. Sticking with modern steel belted radials here.

For example if I take a car to the Shop to get aligned it up. Say I had 4 195-75-14's on there, got it Lined up, and I swapped them out later to 225-70-14's ?

Would swapping the tires be cause for me to take it back in again??

Greg,

You would have to put a significantly larger or smaller tire diameter on one end of the car to change the caster. The camber and toe would stay the same. The 225/70R14 is 0.9" taller than the 195/75R14 and would only change the ride height 0.45" which is negligible so no worries about the alignment. Also, if you have a 7" wide wheel you could go 235/60R14 which is only .4" shorter than the 195/75R14.

Josh,

I need to put some tires on my 1972 Duster and I was wondering what size looks right. I have 7" wide 15" Rallyes with a disk brake front end. The rear tires are 255 60R 15's on 8" Rallyes.

You should be able to do 215/60R15s pretty easily, maybe 225s, but anything bigger probably won't fit without rubbing or fender trimming.

This car has 205/60R15s on the front 235/60R15 on the back. I don't like putting too wide a tire on a given wheel as they wear and handle poorly.
