Post subject:  Starting problems
After I've driven around long enough to get the motor up to full operating temperature, it has a lot of trouble restarting again after sitting for 10-30 minutes. If I restart it just a few minutes later, it fires up just fine. If I restart it later than 30 minutes (estimate) it fires up perfectly again. But when in that window, the car just doesn't want to start at all. It takes a good 10 tries to get it to fire. When it does, the motor chokes and acts like it's not getting any fuel. I have to get on the gas pretty good for a few seconds and then it idles just fine. I've done the fuel line mod and this isn't a problem that only happens when its hot outside. Could this be a fuel pump problem?

hi have you checked the fuel line rubber hose going to the fuel sender into the tank it may be sucking air or leaking out fuel draining the fuel pump so makeing it hard to start just a thought because it"s happend to my car.

got the same problem on my friend's old truck, check the fuel pump, fuel line, and the fuel TANK filter ((The one that is in the tank that helps keep crap like leaves and junk from ruining the fuel pump.))

Im sure they MAY be your problem.

Yea, my 69 A100 does the same thing. I also did the S.S. Dan thing with the fuel line and doesn't help at all. I dropped the tank and found that I didn't have a sock, clean lines, a new pump, etc. and no change. :shrug: I think it's got something to do with this so called gas that we burn, and it does get frustrating dealing with the problem. I'm almost at the point of wrapping my exhaust manifold to see if that will help. I do have a spacer under the carb, but honestly feel that it hasn't helped much, if at all. You may just have to learn to live with it. :shrug: Good Luck anyway.

hi i may be off. but i would be checking the the coil it may be stuffed it sounds like it cuts out when it gets hot just a thought good luck

Please see this post, and make sure your fuel tank and carburetor bowl are vented correctly.

It is a heat soak problem because the two manifolds are bolted together.
They can get pretty hot and boil the gas in the carb and/or create a vapor lock. I took Dan's advice, did his gas line mod, got a couple of the 3/8" phenolic spacers for the carb and built a aluminum heat shield and put in the thermostat he suggests.

It works!

On a 90 degree plus day I can stop at store 10-30 minutes to get something come back out and the car starts as fast as I can release the key. No more cranking........ :D
