Good Morning Everyone !!! I have been working on my 73 Duster 225 3 spd and I still have some problems. I did a valve job, changed timing chain, all the wiring etc... I still idle rough and for some weird reason I can pull cylinder 5 and 6 spark plug wires off and the car runs the same?????????? I have spark, I have compression (130), and I have fuel. The timing is set 5 deg btdc. I have not rebuilt the carb as of yet, but mostly everything has been changed except the bottom end. HHHHEEEELLLLPPPPPP? Thanks Mopars4life |

That doesn't necessarily mean all the parts are good. What brand of each component did you use? |

Moaprs4life, It is funny that you mention that it doesn't run much different even with 5 and 6 pulled. The other day I had pulled both of those wires off the plugs to drain my fuel water separator into a cleaned up GOOP container and I fired it up. It didn't tun that bad..... During the rebuild I had the engine balanced and it runs very, very smooth!!! I would be following Dan's suggestion and replace the wires, and changing over to the NGK plugs and the long tip rotor (Echlin MO-3000) and Bluestreak cap. It does make a big difference. My engine will idle smoothly all day long at 600 rpm in gear. I just did that last night on the 2 1/2 hour commute home, stop and go all the way for 65 miles |

Sounds like crossed plug wires to me... |

Post subject: | Yup |
Firing order is correct. I actually checked to see if I had crossed the wires about 5x because I have done that before. All my stuff came from the local parts store, no specific name brand but the ngk spark plugs. What part number is the mo-3000 for? |

MO-3000 is for the extended tip Echiln rotor....as referenced in my earlier post. When was the last time you had the carb apart? Maybe some junk floating around in there.....Do you have the 1920? just take off the four bolts on holding on the float bowl cover and check. I have a cut down red plastic Folger's coffee container that I use to catch the gas to check for water or debris. Some stations are selling gas with ethanol and it does melt regular rubber fuel lines. You could have some black rubber specs in with the fuel. I recently switched over to 30R9 per SL6Dan's suggestion. |

Um...dude, you bought the stuff and handled it...surely you can do better than "no specific name brand". Are you telling us the parts came in plain white or brown boxes? Or are you telling us you made the error of shopping at AutoZone and buying their off-brand garbage?

Autozone ! I probably need to rebuild the carb. I will check it out. |

Buy better-quality parts. The stuff they're selling at AutoZone really is junk. |

How did you adjust the valves after doing the valve job.... hot and running? DD |

Oddly they sell GP Sorenson carb rebuild kits that I consider 'junk'... but are now the 'lowest' rung on the standard motor product family ladder....Just do a search on the site, and know where to get the good parts, or know 'what' to ask... -D.Idiot |
