Who drives a slant all the time with a set of headers on it? good? bad??
I drove a duster for a while with a set but it was mostly used for racing.
Opinions please??/

Would a 2.5 single exhaust with a thrush turbo muffler be ok? I already have one...

Ive been running headers on my daily driver for 4 years now even in winter, no problem. I have clifford shorties with their Y-pipe to a single 2 1/2" pipe into a 2 1/4" in and out cherry bomb turbo muffler then a 2 1/4" pipe out the back

Well we are probably talkin a stock short block. I may add a small cam later. Im going with a shaved head and 3 angle valve job later on as well(.100) . Probably gonna run the #4412 holley 500cfm 2 bbl carb with smaller jetting on the primary and secondary side. I ran one of these on my '71 duster which was a pretty much stock motor and it seemed to do well on it. Im not gonna get to crazy with it because Im gonna set it up to drive long distances and daily at that. I need respectable mpg from this thing.

I would call this mild. The engine probably has around 140k on it but it runs well. Does not smoke. The only times I have seen it smoke are when the carb was to rich. I'll build another short block someday but for now if it runs ok why mess with it? It has the 904 and 2.76 geared rear as well which is holding up well: knock on wood:::

Heck, mine is .030 over/.090 off the head/ oversized valves/ custom cam, and with a 904 to 2.8 in the rear pulling 3400lb, gets 19 mpg. Swap rear gears for 4.11 and it has run 15.39 in the 1/4.

And it's an awesome car to ride around in! :D Thanks Richard.

Michael,

I wouldn't worry about daily driving with headers. I've done it many times. You are in warm country, so winter won't even be a concern.

Dutra Duals are probably the best long term solution, but if you have the headers, use 'em.

Question: do headers do anything for around-town performance 40 mph or less. Or are they more for WOT performance. :?:

If the headers are long enough, like the Hookers (40" primaries), yes they will help boost low end torque right off idle.

If they are short like Clifford's, then no, they are for mids to high end, well beyond 40 mph.

Even the shorties will work well down low if you use a good primary pipe off the header into a Y just behind the trans X-member.

I have 3 of my Mopars on the road, 2 have headers, the 3rd will have headers soon, and the one that I am doing work on now will have the headers fitted once the bodywork is done.

So, Headers all the way for me.
